Welcome to The Sinner’s Need Of Christ chapter
This is the first chapter of the inspired book Steps To Christ. The author emphasizes:
- The change of the state of being of our first parents after their fall.
- What did they need after believing Satan’s lies and distrusting God.
- Why can only Christ provide the remedy everyone in this fallen world needs.
Humankind was originally endowed with noble abilities and a well-balanced mind at creation.
They were perfect with pure thoughts and holy aims. Thus they were in harmony with God and happy in His presence.
Satan gained dominion over humanity
After they sinned, our first parents can no longer find joy in holiness.
Furthermore, they sought to hide from the presence of God. Such is still the condition of everyone born thereafter.
Our nature became weakened through transgression. So, it was impossible for anyone in own strength to resist the power of evil.
We would refrain from the companionship of holy beings.
Sinners thoughts, interests and motives, would be unfamiliar to those of the sinless dwellers there.
Heaven would be to them a place of torture.
So, it is no an arbitrary order of God that excludes the wicked from Heaven.
They are shut out by their own unfitness for it. The glory of God would be to them a consuming fire.
Additionally, humans would have remained so forever had not God interposed.
By the evil he caused, Satan would continue to control humanity in :
- State of moral degradation, alienation and damnation.
- Lack of satisfaction and crashed by the weight of gilt.
- Accusations of constant failure, deceptions and lies.
- No eternal future, but death.
- Blaming God’s work of creating humankind for things that are result of his work .

The sinners need of Christ’s grace and power
It is impossible for us, of ourselves, to escape from the pit of sin in which we are sunken. Our hearts are evil, and we cannot change them.
Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? Not one. Job 14:4.
The carnal mind is enmity against God;
For it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. Romans 8:7.
Therefore, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. John 3:3
In other words, unless we receive:
- New hearts, desires, purposes and motives.
- A new life from above, we can’t see the Kingdom of God.
Nothing from this world can help to achieve it. But that power is Christ.
His grace alone can quicken the lifeless faculties of the soul, and attract it to God and holiness.
The call to Behold the Lamb of God
The author points up the apostle Paul conclusions in the Book Of Romans:
I am carnal, sold under sin. Romans 7:14.
And he cried out: O wretched man that I am, who shall deliver me from this body of death? Romans 7:24.
Such is the cry that has gone up from burdened hearts in all lands and in all ages.
To all, there is but one answer:
Behold the Lamb of God, which takes away the sin of the world. John 1:29.
The only way of communication between God and humans
This was made known to Jacob in a dream. He saw that which met the need and longing of his soul – a Savior.
He saw the way by which he, a sinner, can be restored to communion with God.
The mystic ladder of his dream stretched between heaven and earth represented Jesus.
Another example of the same figure is found in the Book Of John. Christ refers to it in His conversation with Nathanael, saying:
Ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man. John 1:51.
Thus Christ connects fallen humans, with the source of infinite power.
Additionally, He points to Himself as the only way to God:
I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life: no man comes unto the Father but by me. John 14:6.
Conclusion on sinner’s need
It is a great need for everyone under the burden of sin, accepted or not. We all have come short of the glory of God.
So, we all need the help that comes from God through Jesus.
The author’s appeal at the end of the chapter is to:
- Regard the love and mercy of God demonstrated in the Gift of His Son.
- Place ourselves in the right relationship with Him.
Moreover to avail ourselves of the means provided for us that we may be:
- Transformed into His likeness.
- Restored to harmony and communion with the Father and the Son.
