There is no condemnation to them who are in Jesus
What does it mean?
Certainly it doesn’t mean that the Law of God ceased to exist. His Law is infinite and immutable as God Himself.
Its moral claims are still binding.
I feel the same way as the apostle Paul explained in Romans chapters 7 and 8.
I delight in the Law of God, which becomes the law of my mind. But I see another law in me opposing it.
That is the law of sin which is in my nature. I was born with it.
I was shaped in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me. Psalm 51:5. Moreover, I grew up and lived this way.
The Law of God reveals it, exposing my sins.
So, the question I ask is the same he asked:
O wretched man that I am! Who shall deliver me from the body of this death? Romans 7:24.
This is my miserable condition. It is the law of sin in me that leads me to death.

Therefore, I thank God for providing Jesus as the way of escape.
By His grace, when abiding in Him and guided by His Spirit, I am made free from the law of sin and death.
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. Romans 8:2.

Christ rebukes sin, but not sinner
Satan knows God’s commandments of love better than any human being. He is the first who rebelled against God in Heaven.
Thereafter, he calls for punishment of the law breakers. He points to me as a sinner and the transgressor of the law.
Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law. For sin is the transgression of the law. 1 John 3:4.
I can’t bring anything on my own to answer the claims of the Law of God,which is holy, just and good. Romans 7:12.
But, I am not crushed by the guilt after I got the knowledge of the commandments.
On my turn I point to Jesus, who is my Savior. I am justified by His blood and will be sanctified by His Divine grace.
I depend on Christ for my salvation. He was manifested to take away our sins. And in Him is no sin. 1 John 3:5.
He is not condemning nor punishing me, but saves me. I have my freedom in Him from the bondage of sin.
Moreover, I also know it is not a licence to lawlessness. Jesus said:
Think not that I came to destroy the law, or the prophets; I came not to destroy, but to fulfil.
For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Matthew 5:17, 18.
Furthermore, he that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning.
For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. 1 John 3:8.
To summarize it, Jesus did:
- Exalt the Law of God by His righteous life and death on the cross.
- Destroy the deceptions and snares of Satan, and his law of sin which leads to death.
Let’s stay connected
Condemning the innocent to die the cruellest death
On the way to Jerusalem, Christ said to His disciples:
Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be betrayed unto the chief priests and unto the scribes;
and they shall condemn him to death;
And shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify him. Matthew 20:18, 19.
They knew that He:
- Was doing greater works than they ever had done, or ever could perform.
- If he continued his teachings, he would become higher in authority than them.
- Might become king of the Jews.
Therefore, the chief priests, and elders, and all the council, sought false witness against Jesus, to put him to death. Matthew 26:59.
Jesus knew the condition of their heart and told them earlier:
But if ye had known what this meaneth, I would have mercy, and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless. Matthew 12:7.
They would not accept him as their king.
When Pilate said unto them, Why, what evil hath he done? And they cried out more exceedingly: Crucify him. Mark 15:14.
Thus by taking the life of the Son of God, they were bringing about the very thing they wanted to prevent.
The crucifixion of Jesus made Him the Redeemer of humanity, their Saviour and ruler over the whole world.

Conclusion on condemnation of sin
God sent His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh.
In His humanity and as living in this world’s sinful environment, He condemned sin, but not sinners.
And in Him is no sin. 1 John 3:5.
He provided a way for people to be free from the law of sin, which leads to death.
