    Overview

The Bible describes the “Second death” in its last book – the Revelation of Jesus to His servant John. It’s also alluded to by Old Testament writers (Deuteronomy 30:15; Ezekiel 33:11).

The “Second death” is a supernatural event on the part of God. It brings to an end the existence of Satan, fallen angels and unrighteous people (Revelation 20:10; 21:8). It is final and irreversible to the point as they never exist (Obadiah 1:16; Psalm 37:10).

Those who are faithful will not be hurt by the second death (Revelation 2:10). On one that has part in the “First resurrection”, the “Second death” has no power (Revelation 20:6).

The “Second death” is not a natural end of life. Scriptures define it as death for those things that are cast into the “Lake of fire” (Revelation 20:14, 15).

Speaking in figure, it also causes mortal objects and terms to disappear (Revelation 20:14). Sin, death and grave, pain and sickness will be forever gone and forgotten.

This post explains the nature and timing of the “Second death”. Furthermore, who will experience this death and on what decision it is based?

And last but not least is how to avoid it. It is equally important for believers and unbelievers..

The choice one makes in this life will be one’s choice for eternity. And the outcome is eternal life or eternal death.

The post is for seekers of Bible truth. It expands scriptural knowledge, strengthening the believer’s faith and hope for the new eternal reality.

It also helps those who are undecided to make an informed decision.

The “Second death” nature and timing

The apostle John said that it is a future event. It signifies the very end of this world. The next picture presented to John is the “new heaven and new earth”. For example:

    • For the first heaven and the first earth were passed away. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
    • And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men. And he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people. God himself shall be with them, and be their God. Revelation 21:2, 3.

Furthermore, the apostle points to those, who will inherit all things, being the children of God (Revelation 21:7). He also exposes those, who will have their part in the second death (Revelation 21:8).

    Revelation chapter 21 verse 2.
    Revelation 21:2

The second death is not caused by strong natural forces, known to humanity. It is a supernatural catastrophe as it happened. Moreover, it is an act of God after the judgment of the world.

As promised in His Word, God brings to an end the things with no eternal future. It is everyone and everything that is under the dominion of darkness, sin and Satan.

Jesus has brought the light of everlasting righteousness and life. It is His free gift to humanity for their justification and renewal of heart and character.

Thus many turned from the power of Satan unto God. They have received forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among the sanctified by faith.

By overcoming sin in their lives they are part of the “First resurrection”. It is for the righteous dead. And the second death has no power over participants in the first resurrection (Revelation 20:6).

Where does the “Second death” take place?

The “Second death” occurs in the “Lake of Fire”. Scripture gives a list (not exhaustive) of unrighteous people who have their part in the lake. They are to be burned with fire and brimstone. This is the second death (Revelation 21:8).

In contrast, John said that those who overcome will inherit all things (Revelation 21:7). Here he speaks of the inheritance of Heaven. Thus the blessed promise and hope of eternal life comes to fruition.

The lake of fire is from God. It doesn’t exist naturally on the earth. It can be symbolic or a real place. Nevertheless, it signifies the end of everything still connected with sin and unrighteousness.

    For instance:

    • The devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone (Revelation 20:10).
    • The beast and the false prophet were cast to the same place (Revelation 20:10).
    • Whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire (Revelation 20:15).
    • And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death (Revelation 20:14).
    1 Corinthians chapter 6 verse 2.
    1 Corinthians 6:2

The judgment execution of the unjust is through the lake of fire. They have been judged by Christ and His immortal saints for 1000 years prior. For example:

    • I (John) saw a great white throne, and Him that sat on it. The dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. Revelation 20:11, 12.
    • Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? And if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters? 1 Corinthians 6:2.

    God is a consuming fire

This description of God having fiery attributes is consistent throughout the Bible.

For our God is a consuming fire. Hebrews 12:29.

This New Testament book refers to the same texts found in Deuteronomy 4:24 and 9:3. As a figure, this expression signifies God’s ability to bring an end to everything. With God all things are possible (Matthew 19:26).

People know very well the effect of fire. So, the fiery imagery is used in Scriptures, conveying spiritual messages. For example:

    • The thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit. His throne was like a fiery flame, and His wheels were burning fire. A fiery stream issued and came forth from before Him. The judgment was set, and the books were opened. Daniel 7:9, 10.
    • When the thousand years have expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison to gather nations together to battle. They compassed the camp of the saints and the beloved city. And fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them. Revelation 20:9.

It is crucial to understand the effect of God’s fire over Satan, sin, fallen angels and unrighteous people. All those are devoured by the fire sent from God.

Thus God eradicates sin and sinfulness completely from the entire Universe.

Why is the “Second death” the wages of sin?

The Bible explicitly states that the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23). Because of the sin of Adam and Eve, death came upon humanity. So, all alike go down into the grave.

But this death experienced by all is not the second death. This is the “Sleep death” which the Word of God mentions. For example:

    • Consider and hear me, O Lord my God. Lighten mine eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death. Psalm 13:3.
    • Our friend Lazarus sleeps. But I go, that I may wake him out of sleep. However Jesus spoke of his death. Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead. John 11:11-14.

So, no one can avoid the “Sleep death”, ending the life we live now. This is the probationary life, granted by God to everyone after the fall. It is the opportunity to know and choose to be with God or not.

Thus out of His love and mercy to humanity, God gave everybody another chance.

The wages of sin is death. But the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:23.

All people are to be brought forth from their graves after the “Sleep death”. It is by God’s plan for redemption of humanity. For example:

So, all in the graves will hear Christ’s voice and come forth (John 5:28). Those who have been “accounted worthy” (Luke 20:35) are resurrected for eternal life. They are “blessed and holy.” “On such the second death has no power” (Revelation 20:6).

    Romans chapter 6 verse 23.
    Romans 6:23

But the rest who haven’t repented to God and chosen Christ as Savior and Lord receive “the wages of sin.” Thus finally they experienced the second death.

    Let’s stay connected

Reconciling the “Second death” with God’s mercy and justice

God’s sovereignty in heaven and on earth remains unchanged after the fall of humanity. (Psalm 103:19). It is always executed in perfect harmony with His goodness, justice and mercy.

Our life originates from God and depends on Him (John 1:4). He sustains all forms of life – natural and spiritual (Genesis 1:27; Acts 17:28; 1 John 4:9).

This world was “sold under sin” and it is broken today. Adam and Eve believed the lies of Satan.

They distrusted God, going their own way. But, it is the way of self destruction, cutting ties with the ultimate Source of life.

They were deprived from the “Tree of life” and banished from the “Garden of Eden”. Thus God unmistakably implied that there will not be immortal sinners.

He has granted a probationary life to humans. He gave them a second chance to learn, understand and choose the way out. (Romans 7:14; 2 Peter 3:9).

God devised and executed with His Divine Son the redemptive plan for His creation. Once in the hands of Satan, they were not able to help themselves.

Out of His love to humanity, God crucified Himself in the person of His Son. He paid the price for their redemption with His blood on the cross.

Thus God remained just to Himself and His Law of love, to humanity and to the rest of the Universe.

He also has appointed a time for the end of probation. Thus He declared the irreversible end to:

    • Sin and the originator of sin – Satan.
    • Fallen angels.
    • Unrighteous people.

But, for those who overcome sin through His grace, there is no condemnation. For example:

    • To him that overcomes will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God. Revelation 2:7.
    • For the wages of sin is death. But the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:23.

God earnestly pleads with everyone since the fall of our first parents:

As I live, saith the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked. But that the wicked turn from his way and live. Ezekiel 33:11.

    God’s dealing with evil

Many today still have difficulties harmonizing the existence of evil under the sovereignty of God.

Scriptures give the definition of sin. Sin is the transgression of the law. 1 John 3:4.

It is a manifestation of the opposition and controversy with the law of love – the foundation of the Divine government. (Romans 8:7; Romans 13:10).

Satan was the first to sin against God. He has deceived himself by the pride of his own heart, coveting the position of the Almighty. (Isaiah 14:13, 14; Ezekiel 28:6, 17; Jeremiah 49:16).

God gave him time to fully develop his pretensions. Thus the holy angels had the opportunity to see God’s true justice and love.

Satan has also deceived our first parents, Adam and Eve. So sin entered into the world. Since then, Satan accuses humanity, insisting their punishment if God is just.

God didn’t change the way He governed the Universe after the fall of angels and humans.

God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16.

Thus He fully exposed the character of Satan. Christ defeated him that had the power of death,  by His sacrificial death on the cross. (Hebrews 2:14).

The Deity was glorified. And the most full display will be at His second coming. (Matthew 25:31).

God is in control of the fate of those who will choose to be with Him for eternity.

Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:39.

    FAQs about the “Second death”

    Second death questions answered.
    Second death FAQs

    What is the “Second death”?

Core question: What exactly does “second death” mean in the Bible?

The “second death” is defined in the New Testament book of Revelation.

    • This is the death of celestial and human beings in the “Lake of fire”.
      • Revelation 20:10 – The devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are.
      • Revelation  21:8 – The fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
      • Revelation 20:15 – And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
    • This is also the death (symbolically) for inanimate objects and terms such as “death” and “graves”
      • Revelation 20:14 – Death and hell (grave) were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

In short: The “Second death” is the casting into the lake of fire. It is God’s supernatural event as the outcome of His judgment. It brings the utter end.

Where does the Bible mention the “Second death”?

Core question: Where do I find this in the Bible?

The “Second death” phrase can be found only in the book of Revelation.

    • Revelation 2:11 – He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.
    • Revelation  21:8 – The fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
    • Revelation 20:14 – Death and hell (grave) were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

The “Second death” is tightly connected with the “Lake of fire” (Revelation 20:10, 14, 15; 21:8).

In short: Revelation mentions the phrase “Second death” as experiencing this death in the “Lake of fire”.

Who will experience the “Second death”?

Core question: Who ends up in the “second death”?

God has appointed time to judge the world in righteousness (Psalm 9:8; Acts 17:31). The righteous – resurrected and those alive receive the reward of eternal life at Christ’s second coming.

The rest will experience the “Second death”.

In short: The “Second death” is the outcome of God’s final judgment to the unrighteous. They are those, persisting in unbelief and sin.

How is the “Second death” different from the “Sleep death” (First death)?

Core question: Is the “Second death” just dying again, or something else?

Jesus and Paul refer to the death everyone experienced at the end of this life as “Sleep death”. (John 11:11-15; 1 Corinthians 15:51). This death is followed by resurrection for everyone at different times and purposes.

    • Marvel not at this. For the hour is coming, in which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice. And shall come forth. They that have done good, unto the resurrection of life. And they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation. John 5:28, 29.

The “Second death” is final. There’s no resurrection for anyone after this death. All that are cast in the lake, burning with fire and brimstone come to utter end as they never existed. (Obadiah 1:16; Psalm 37:10).

In short: After the “Sleep death” (physical death) comes resurrection. People are resurrected to receive the judgment defined (Hebrews 9:27).

The “Second death” is irreversible execution of the judgment allotted. It is a complete exclusion from the new eternal reality (Revelation 21).

Is the “Second death” eternal conscious torment or destruction?

Core question: Is the “second death” endless punishment or final destruction?

The “Second death” is a complete and utter end of fallen celestial and human beings.

    • Fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them. Revelation 20:9)

So, “devouring by fire” is a complete destruction with no remains left.

The Revelation also mentions the earthly systems, such as “Beast” and “False prophet” in “the lake of fire and brimstone”. Revelation 20:10.

Inanimate objects can’t be “tormented day and night forever”. So, this language of verse 10 is symbolic regarding those systems.

In the “new heaven and earth”, death  and graves will be no more (Revelation 21:4). And those inanimate terms are also “cast into the lake of fire”. This is the second death (Revelation 20:14).

In a symbolic sense, it signifies disappearance forever.

In short: Death as the end of life known to humanity, can come to animate beings – celestial and human.

Eternal conscious punishment of earthly systems, which are inanimate objects as per Revelation 20:10, can’t exist in a literal sense.

How does the “Second death” relate to final judgment and the new creation?

Core question: Where does the second death fit in the end‑times timeline?

The “Second death” takes place after 1000 years of judgment (Revelation 20:6-8).

    • And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. Revelation 20:15.

It signifies the very end of this world. The next picture presented to John is the “new heaven and new earth”. Revelation 21, entire chapter.

In short: The “Second death” is the outcome of the 1000 years judgment allotted. It is for those who have no part in the “First resurrection”.

The next events are the glorious restoration of heaven and earth recorded by apostle John.

    Conclusion

The “Second death” is a supernatural act of God. It is experienced through the “Lake of fire”. This is the end of the existence of fallen celestial and unrighteous human beings.

They are those included in the “resurrection of damnation” (John 5:29) from their natural (sleep) death. They and the sin they cherished are eternal exclusion from God’s renewed sinless kingdom.

So, the wages of sin is death, which is the potion of the wicked. On the other hand, the gift of God is eternal life for the righteous.

Thus the “Second death” is placed in contrast with everlasting life. This is how God appeals to His people:

I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil. Therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live. Deuteronomy 30:15, 19.

Nothing happens in the “kingdom of men” that God is not aware of or permits. (Daniel 4:17). He rules the entire universe as at the time of creation. (Exodus 19:5).

His sovereignty in heaven and on earth remains unchanged after the fall of humanity. (Psalm 103:19). Moreover, it is always executed in perfect harmony with His wisdom, goodness, and love.

God allows celestial and human figures to play their roles in earthly history. (Job 2:3; Proverbs 21:1). He turns evil into good according to His everlasting plan of humanity’s redemption.

This world was “sold under sin” and it is broken today. God still gives time to people to learn, understand and decide to find the way out. (Romans 7:14; 2 Peter 3:9).

Satan claims this world as his own territory. He blames its citizens for being unfaithful. Moreover, he constantly tempts them, pointing fingers and urging their punishment. (1 Peter 5:8).

God’s beloved Son completed the human redemption. Through His sacrificial and other-centered love, He defeated Satan on the cross. (Hebrews 2:14).

He had established His spiritual kingdom already. (Mark 1:15). It is only a matter of time to restore people and their planet to His glorious promise. (Revelation, chapter 21).

    The sovereignty of God

God is the Creator of heaven and earth. (Genesis 1:1; Genesis 2:7; Psalms 33:6, 9, John 1:3). He identifies Himself as God and Lord of humanity. (Isaiah 44:6 and 45:18).

So, He owns everything and He is the giver of life. Our life originates from God and depends on Him. (John 1:4)

Furthermore, He sustains all forms of life – natural and spiritual. (Genesis 1:27; Acts 17:28; 1 John 4:9).

God’s sovereignty involves fullness of blessing to all created beings. The glory of God is the well-being of humans. (Psalm 31:19; Psalm 33:5).

He urges His sovereignty as a reason for His merciful abundance in supplying the demands upon Him. (Psalm 89:13, 14, 17).

God’s Law of love is the foundation of His government in heaven and on earth. The Law of God is the:

Furthermore, it is fully revealed to us in the life and mission of Christ. He demonstrated its moral framework as based on the principle of love to God and people. (Deuteronomy 6:5; Leviticus 19:18; Matthew 22:37, 39; John 15:10).

Additionally, He declared that God is love and in Him there’s no variation or shadow of turning. (1 John 4:8; James 1:17).

The Scriptures also state plainly that in the government of God there’s no compromise with evil. And this He requires from the earthly rulers. (Isaiah 9:6, 7; 2 Samuel 23:3).

    God’s infinite power

It is demonstrated through the laws that nature follows. God has established His physical laws for earth and heaven as He garnished them at their creation. (Job 26:13). So, they operate under the power of God.

    For example:

Lo, these are parts of His ways. But how little a portion is heard of Him? But the thunder of His power, who can understand? Job 26:13.

The Creator (Author) of nature is also the Author of the Bible. God is revealed in His Word as He is revealed in nature. The same principles run through the spiritual and natural world:

    • Love and mercy.
    • Goodness and beneficent.

Scriptures describe the provisions of the living God as the only means of redeeming the broken world. This needs to be recognized as the orderly movements of earth, moon, sun are seen and recognized.

From Genesis to Revelation God speaks to the human heart. His Word is the power unto salvation to everyone who believes Him. (Romans 1:16; John 1:12).

    For instance:

    • Thus saith the Lord, thy Redeemer, and He that formed thee from the womb. I am the Lord that maketh all things. That stretcheth forth the heavens alone. That spreadeth the earth abroad by Myself. Isaiah 44:24.
    • And they remembered that God was their rock, and the high God their Redeemer. Psalm 78:35.
    • Let thy mercies come also unto me, O Lord, even thy salvation, according to thy word. Psalm 119:41.

So, the creative and redemptive powers of God demonstrate His infinite love to humanity before and after sin.

    Dealing with evil

The origin of sin and the reason for its existence are a source of great perplexity for many. So, they ask the question:

How all this evil in the world can exist under the sovereignty of God, who is infinite in wisdom, power, and love.

The only place for answers is to search for what God has revealed in His Word.

God has spared the author of evil, giving him time to fully develop his crafty ambitions. This gave the holy angels the opportunity to see God’s true justice and love.

Satan has also deceived our first parents, Adam and Eve. Thus sin entered into the world. God hasn’t destroyed him nor our world after the fall. (Romans 5:12).

But, God had given the infinite Gift on Calvary. The Son of God came in person to redeem humanity from sin and supply His saving grace. (Matthew 1:16, 21; Galatians 1:4).

Romans 8:39

In other words, He has done what He could do to save the world. (John 1:29).

The entire Bible and the history of humanity demonstrate this. For example:

Surely as I have thought, so shall it come to pass. And as I have intended, so shall it stand.

For the Lord of hosts hath purposed, and who shall disannul it? And His hand is stretched out, and who shall turn it back? Isaiah 14:24, 27

    Let’s stay connected

Satan’s claim of being the world’s master

Satan was expelled from heaven and from the hearts of celestial beings at the cross. (Revelation 12:7-9). But, God permits the controversy to continue on our planet for a little longer.

    For example:

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour. 1 Peter 5:8.

God is preparing a people to stand in the final earthly crises, proclaiming His name (character). (Daniel 12:1). Furthermore, glorifying Him with their victory over sin by His grace.

    Daniel chapter 12 verse 1.

Therefore, Satan is constantly working to misrepresent the character and government of God. He urges punishment from God on disobedience.

Moreover, to hold the inhabitants of the world under his deceptions. He lies, conceals and insinuates, tempts, mixing truth with error.

We found in Scriptures a good example for it. It was when Satan tempted Jesus in the wilderness.

He showed Him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them and said: All these things will I give thee. For that is delivered unto me. And to whomever I will, I give it. Matthew 4:8, 9; Luke 4:6.

So, Satan stated what was true only in part. He put it to serve his own purpose of deception. His dominion on earth was that taken from Adam after the fall. (Genesis 1:26-28).

But Adam’s rule wasn’t an independent rule. The earth is God’s, and He has committed all things to His Son. (John 3:35; Hebrews 1:2).

Adam was to reign subject to Christ. When Adam betrayed his sovereignty to Satan, Christ still remained the rightful King.

So, Satan can exercise his authority only as God permits. Moreover, to all of His creation, celestial and human, He implicitly stated:

To the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever He will. Daniel 4:17.

Rise and fall of the earthly monarch

Daniel revealed to king Nebuchadnezzar God’s judgment that was about to fall upon him. It was because of his pride and arrogance according to the interpretation of the king’s dream.

Daniel even appealed to him to break off his sins by righteousness, and his iniquities by shewing mercy to the poor. Daniel 4:27.

    Daniel chapter 4 verse 30.

One year passed by after their meeting. Going to his palace the king proudly stated:

Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty? Daniel 4:30.

In a moment, the power that was given to king Nebuchadnezzar by his Creator, was taken away.

There fell a voice from heaven, saying, O king Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken. The kingdom is departed from thee.

And they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field.

They shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over thee, until thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever He will. Daniel 4:31, 32.

Thus king Nebuchadnezzar was humbled before his subjects and all the world for seven years. He also lost his wisdom, reasoning and judgment of which he was so proud.

The same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar. And he was driven from men, and did eat grass as oxen.

His body was wet with the dew of heaven, till his hairs were grown like eagles’ feathers, and his nails like birds’ claws. Daniel 4:33.

After seven years passed, his reason was restored as predicted in the dream interpretation. Looking up in humility to God, he acknowledged publicly his guilt and the mercy of God in his restoration.

    For example:

I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up my eyes unto heaven, and my understanding returned unto me. I blessed the most High, and I praised and honoured Him that liveth for ever.

Whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and His kingdom is from generation to generation.

He doeth according to His will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth. None can stay His hand, or say unto Him, What doest thou?

Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honour the King of heaven, all whose works are truth, and His ways judgment. And those that walk in pride He is able to abase. Daniel 4:34, 35, 37.

    Conclusion

God does according to His will in heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth. He is in control in our broken world, which was sold to sin.

The well-being of humans, as part of His sovereignty, remains unchanged after the fall. God’s Law of love is the foundation of His government in heaven and on earth.

So, out of His love to the world, He gave His Son to redeem it from the bondage of sin and Satan. He is aware and permits the real historic figures to play their role as He intends.

In the “kingdom of men” He is able to abase those that walk in pride, no matter of their high status.

God and His beloved Son were and always will be one in mind and heart about humanity. From everlasting to everlasting their infinite love remains the same. It is stronger than any “power” in the entire Universe. Nothing can separate their creation from it. (Romans 8:39).

As members of the Godhead, the Father and the Son are faithful to themselves and the vast Cosmos at any time. They provide the highest good to all created beings.

Based on their foreknowledge they agreed to help humankind cut the chains of sin bondage even before their creation.

So, before this world was made, God and His beloved Son united in a pledge that Jesus would redeem the human species.

Out of their love and goodness, they devised and implemented the plan of human redemption. (John 3:16, 17; Romans 3:8; Galatians 2:20).

The Bible tells that this is the great mystery of God. Though it was in His mind from eternity, the plan of redemption began after the fall of humanity.

Thus God’s eternal covenant from the past is carried through, and realized in everlasting future life. It is by the promise of God, that after its complete eradication, sin will never rise again.

Perpetual love in creation and redemption

Everything God has done and will do is out of His infinite and unchanging love for humanity. He had honored humankind, creating them in His image. (Genesis 1:26, 27).

God’s loving design and work was expressed in human beings and their home planet. He testified that everything in creation was very good. (Genesis, chapter 1).

Humanity was endowed by God with faculties to be an intelligent counterpart of God. They were holy and happy in God’s presence, communicating face to face with Him.

It was so until they fell short from the glory of God. They distrusted God, believing the lies of the serpent (Satan). They had doubts that God has their best interest, withholding something good from them.

Therefore, they were not representing God anymore, but the one in whom selfishness arose for the first time.

God acted, announcing His redemptive plan (Genesis 3:15). Since then, He worked to make known to humanity His unwavering will to save them. Thus whosoever will and by His grace can be brought back to harmony with Him.

God outlined in His Word everything one needs to know about one’s salvation. This includes repentance to God and having faith in His beloved Son

Jesus Christ is the Savior of every individual who lived from Adam. He continues to save down the line of time until His second coming. Out of His love, He became the Lamb of God who took the sin of our broken world. (John 1:29).

This is the ultimate truth of the entire Bible. The world’s Redeemer, the outshining of the Father’s glory, is the embodiment of the Old and New Testaments.

    Continual faithfulness and relentless goodness

The members of the Goadhead were faithful and true to their eternal covenant. The Father and the Son completed the plan of human redemption on the cross of Calvary.

Furthermore, throughout the ages the sovereignty of God involved fullness of blessing to all created beings.

God was just to Himself and His own Law of love, governing the entire Universe. Moreover, He is also the One, justifying all of them who believe in His Son through His grace. (Romans 3:24, Romans 5:1).

Jesus had made an offering of Himself, once for all. (Hebrews 10:10). Additionally, if saved at all, we must believe in Him as the only offering for sin. We must recognize Him as the Savior of the world.

He took our nature of flesh and blood, that through death He might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil. Hebrews 2:14.

As part of human redemption, the beloved Son of God “was made sin” for them.

    For example:

    • For He (the Father) has made Him (the Son) to be sin for us, who knew no sin. That we might be made the righteousness of God in Him. 2 Corinthians 5:21.
    • God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more than, being now justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son. Much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. Romans 5:8-10.

It is His will to cleanse us from sin, make us His children, and enable us to live a holy life. (Galatians 1:4 ; Romans 8:15 ; Ezekiel 36:26, 27). He lives and makes intercession for us. (Hebrews 4:14; Romans 8:34).

This is Christ’s work of today as our High Priest in the most Holy place of the heavenly sanctuary. (1 John 2:1; Hebrews 7:25).

    Let’s stay connected

The same arrangement at different times

The first promise of Deliverer was given to Adam and Eve after the fall of our first parents. Thus in Eden, God promised that the seed of the woman would bruise the serpent’s head. (Genesis 3:16).

This covenant offered to all God’s pardon and grace on future obedience through faith in Christ. The terms of the restored oneness between God and humanity were arranged from all eternity.

This is the essence of the great covenant of redemption.

Therefore, the covenant of grace in Christ is not a new truth. It existed in the mind of God from eternity. This is why it is called the everlasting covenant.

On Mount Moriah, the glorious Messianic promise, had been confirmed to Abraham. (Genesis 22:16-18).

God made His covenant with Abraham about 430 years before the Law was spoken on Sinai.  He had confirmed and ratified it in Christ by His death. It is the very same gospel which the New Testament presents to us.

    For example:

And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying,

In thee shall all nations be blessed. Galatians 3:8.

Further, the plan of redemption was not devised after the fall of humankind. Here is what the apostle Paul tells the gospel – the preaching of Jesus Christ is.

The revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began.
But now it is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith. Romans 16: 25, 26.

    Conclusion on God’s covenant

The Father and the Son had fulfilled the terms of the everlasting covenant. They were faithful to themselves, humanity and the rest of the entire Universe.

Jesus Christ was not alone in His great sacrifice. The Father suffered with the Son the cruelty of sin, Satan and his instruments.

They were motivated by their pardoning love for people. Thus the infinite Love (God) has paid the ultimate price to redeem His creation.

Jesus died to save from sin the fallen creatures just as we are.

Therefore, we may commit the keeping of our souls to God as unto a faithful Creator and Redeemer.

Understanding the Perfect Mind of Christ: Divine and Human Mind Aligned

Group of people before three megaphones.

I hope you enjoy reading this post. If you want to delve deeper into this topic – we can help, just get in touch.

The mind of God has designed a plan to help humanity before their creation. The Father and the Son covenanted to save the world, which hasn’t been brought into existence yet.

The Divine Son of God would take human nature. He would live a righteous life and shed His blood as a ransom for the sin (unrighteousness) of the world.

Thus He would become the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. Revelation 13:8.

And today we are in the midst of the controversy between good and evil. So, either God or Satan controls the mind.

The people of God, who have joined themselves to Christ are one with Him. Thus as the mind is enlightened by the Holy Spirit they discern the Divine influence.

Conversely, Satan constantly diverts minds from Divine to human, that humanity may not cooperate with Heaven.

In His inspired Word, God invites us to have the mind that is in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 2:5). He also gives us warning that as the serpent beguiled Eve, he leads astray our minds from Christ. (2 Corinthians 11:3).

Jesus is the role model for Christians in all things. Developing a mind as His, helps us in our heavenward journey, becoming like Him. (Ephesians 4:13).

Moreover, preparing us to live with Him and the Father for eternity. (1 John 5:11, Revelation 21:22).

    Table of contents

    Condescending from Heaven to earth

The Son of God has taken human nature and became one of the human family. This was a part of the redemptive plan for humanity. He and God the Father have set it even before the world began. (2 Timothy 1:9).

So, the plan of salvation has been in the mind of Godhead before they created humankind and their home planet. Later on, at His appointed time, the promised redeemer came.

Thus the Son of God became Emanuel – God with us. Additionally, He completed His saving mission to our broken world. Jesus redeemed humanity, taking on Himself the sin of the world. (Matthew 1:23; John 1:29).

In His entire life and death, He was true to Himself and God the Father. In Christ is all the glory of the Father and He is the express image of His person. (Hebrews 1:3).

He gave the most true representation of the Godhead in words and conduct. Thus Jesus revealed the loving character of God. For the joy to be with you for eternity, He endured the cross. (John 1:18; Hebrews 12:2).

Through His death on Calvary, Jesus became victorious over sin and Satan, the originator of sin. He won the great battle between good and evil. (Galatians 1:4).

Thus He became a personal Savior for those who believe in His name. (1 John 3:8; John 1:12).

Christ has been resurrected and ascended back to Heaven. He is at the right hand of the Majesty and intercedes on behalf of His people. (Hebrews 1:3; Hebrews 7:25).

Furthermore, Jesus will come to earth again to take His own, rewarding them with eternal life. Those are they who followed the Lamb wherever He went. (Revelation 14:4).

Do you think there’s anyone with bigger experience than Jesus’ Divine and human experience?

Therefore, God enjoins Christ followers to have His mind. For example:

    • Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus. Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God. But made himself of no reputation, and took upon Him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men. Philippians 2:5-7.
    • And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: listen to Him. Luke 9:35.

Getting the mind around “Christ being all and in all”

Jesus Christ is the beloved Divine Son of God, the member of the Godhead. He is also a human being, a member of the human family. So, He is Divine and human at the same time.

Thus Jesus Christ is the embodiment of the Goadhead and humanity. (John 1:1, 14)

He and the Father are one. It is so not only because they have the same nature (essence or substance). But, because they have the very same loving character and relationship, motives and purpose for humanity. (John 10:30; John 3:35; John 5:20).

They covenanted out of their love to help the broken world. And the world has witnessed it on the cross. The infinite love of God paid the ultimate price for human redemption.

Thus Calvary demonstrated the true character of God. (Romans 16:25; Colossians 1:14)

Jesus Christ is unique, one of a kind. He demonstrated and explained throughout His entire life, teaching and miracles healing:

    • God’s glory (goodness of character), righteousness and justice. (2 Corinthians 4:6; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Romans 3:26).
    • His desire to have humanity back with no matter of the cost to Himself. (1 John 3:1; Isaiah 53:5-9).

Most importantly, He revealed God’s other-centered love, by becoming humanity’s atoning sacrifice. Christ gave up His life as the Lamb of God, taking away the sin of our broken world. John 1:29.

    For example:

    • For He (God) hath made Him (Christ) to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him. 2 Corinthians 5:21.
    • All we like sheep have gone astray. We have turned every one to his own way. And the Lord hath laid on Him the iniquity of us all. Isaiah 53:6.

Thus through His death, He destroyed the one, who has the power of death – the devil. (Hebrews 2:14).

Moreover He became the connecting link between the holy God and fallen humanity. Jesus is the Mediator and the High Priest of His followers. (Hebrews 7:25; 1 Timothy 2:5; Hebrews 4:14; Hebrews 6:20).

He has all the power of Heaven and earth. He will come again to take His people, rewarding them with eternal life. John 14:3. John 10:28.

    So, when you think:

    • God – you think Christ.
    • Humanity – you think Christ.
    • The relationship of God and humanity – you think Christ.

    The express image of God

In Christ is all the glory of the Father and He is the express image of His person.

Unto the Son He (Father) saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever. A sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. Hebrews 1:8.

Who, being the brightness of His glory, and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power.

When He had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high. Hebrews 1:3.

Thus He is made unto us wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption. 1 Corinthians 1:30.

For it pleased the Father that in Him should all fullness dwell. In Christ are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. Colossians 1:19; 2:3.

Though He came in the likeness of men, He declared Himself the “I AM”. The meek and lowly Savior is God manifest in the flesh.

He said: Before Abraham was, I AM. John 8:58.

Christ sends His messages of love. He directs the attention of humanity to the nobler world. This is a world they have lost from their vision.

Thus He uplifts our minds absorbed in worldly pursuits and bids us to look into Heaven by faith.

The mind follows a law. It gradually adapts to the subjects it is trained to dwell upon.

What shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?  Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? Mark 8:36, 37.

In other words, the duties of this life must be placed in relation to their eternal interests.

Having the mind of Christ concept

Christ has met people where they were. He brought to human family moral power to become sons and daughters of God. They would have the distinct attributes of renewed minds and hearts.

One has the mind of Christ when in close relation to Him. Scriptures describe it as becoming “one with Christ” as He was “one with the Father”. John 17:21-23.

On the cross, they undeniably demonstrated their oneness in love, motives and purpose to give the broken world another chance. Thus they completed what their wisdom had designed, working in unison.

Jesus also talled His followers to abide in Him. (John 15:4-7). Thus through the natural world motif He taught a spiritual lesson.

The Bible points out that spiritual things are spiritually discerned. (1 Corinthians 2:14).

God’s people gain the right perception through the enlightenment of His Spirit. This enables them to understand clearly the message of His Word. Ultimately, the Spirit is the teacher of all truth. (John 16:13).

So, by conversion and transformation people are to receive the mind of Chris, having:

    • Soundness of Bible principles.
    • Clear spiritual perceptions.
    • Wisdom which comes from God.

Thus they will be persuaded in their own mind and not tossed to and fro with every wind of doctrine. (Romans 14:5; Ephesians 4:14).

So, they are able to stand by faith in the power of God. It is through the revelation of His Word and the help of His Spirit. (1 Corinthians 2:5, 13).

Moreover, to stand with experience, knowing for themselves that Christ is formed within (them), the hope of glory. 2 Corinthians 5:21.

Through the power of His Word

Come to Jesus just as you are, and He will receive you. Your spiritual life is sustained by communion with Him through His Word.

    For example:

    • Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. Matthew 4:4.
    • Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. John 6:53.

They teach in a metaphoric way that sustainable spiritual life needs spiritual food that comes from God.

Additionally, only those who have fortified the mind with the truths of the Bible will endure. They will stand through the last great conflict.

The test will come to everyone – Will I obey God rather than men? (Revelation 13 and 14).

We can stand only in God, understanding His will as revealed in His Word.

Therefore, Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom. Colossians 3:16.

Moreover, Search the Scriptures; for…they are those which testify of me (Christ). John 5:39.

The bread of life alone can satisfy the hungering soul. The water of life alone will quench the thirst of the thirsty soul. (John 6:35; John 4:14).

Blessed are they that hear the Word of God, and keep it. Luke 11:28.

When surrounded with temptations, the Holy Spirit will bring to one’s mind the very words to meet the temptation. This guidance occurs at the moment when the words are most needed.

Therefore, we need constant communion with Jesus just as much as we need daily food to nourish our bodies.

    Let’s stay connected

Through the indwelling of His Spirit

The minds of Christ’s disciples were illuminated by surrendering themselves to the Holy Spirit’s power. So, they realized after His ascension that God was in the flesh among them. (1 Timothy 3:16).

In harmony with the Word of God, His Spirit continues its work throughout the entire period of the Gospel dispensation.

Thus the promise of Jesus to send the Holy Spirit to be always with His followers fulfills day after day. (John 16:13, 14; Romans 8:14; Galatians 4:6).

God’s Word has a depth of meaning which only His Spirit can reveal to us. For instance:

The things of God know no man, but the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is of God. That we might know the things that are freely given to us by God. 1 Corinthians 2:11, 12.

The Holy Spirit is the only effective teacher of divine truth. The Spirit sets the truth home in mind and heart, quickening the conscience and life. (John 6:63; Romans 8:11).

Thus God connects the soul with Himself. For example:

    • Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit, saith the Lord of hosts. Zechariah 4:6.
    • But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord. 2 Corinthians 3:18.
    • You know the Spirit of truth; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. John 14:17.

So, the Spirit conforms the renewed mind and heart to the model Jesus Christ. Thus you

    • Put off the old man.
    • Be renewed in the spirit of your mind.
    • Put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. Ephesians 4:22-25.

Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature. Old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17.

    Beholding the Divine Model

We are to become changed by beholding Christ – wholly transformed and renewed in the image of His purity. For example:

But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord. 2 Corinthians 3:18.

Thus by faith in the Son of God transformation takes place in our characters. Moreover,  we become spiritually minded, discerning spiritual things.

The wisdom of God enlightens our minds and we behold wondrous things out of His law. Psalm 119:18.

Transformation work continues with our sanctification by the truth. And we have an increased measure of understanding.

Furthermore, as the Spirit of Christ works upon our hearts, we become obedient to God. His will becomes our will.

Thus we become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. 2 Peter 1:4.

Then let it be our effort to lift up Jesus. Let the mind be directed to the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world. John 1:29.

On the other hand, if we focus on the moral imperfections of others, our minds will become similar. We will be changed into the same image.

If we allow our minds to focus on worldly cares, there will be no time for the spiritual. There will be also no time for the eternal.

Thus we rob ourselves of grace and power. We deny others the light that should be reflected through us to the world.

    Of a ready mind

Those who choose God for their current time and future, must trust in Him alone. Everyone professing godliness must have an experience of their own.

Without controversy great is the mystery of godliness:

    • God was manifest in the flesh.
    • Justified in the Spirit.
    • Seen of angels.
    • Preached unto the Gentiles.
    • Believed in the world.
    • Received up into glory. 1 Timothy 3:16.

Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God.

But made himself of no reputation, and took upon Him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men. Philippians 2:5-7.

If the mind which was also in Christ Jesus be in you, you will practice the lessons of Christ. Additionally your life will be knit by hidden links to the life of Jesus.

He who commanded the light to shine out of darkness is willing to shine in your heart, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. 2 Corinthians 4:6.

Let the mind dwell upon the sufferings of our precious Savior.

For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, that ye through His poverty might be rich. 2 Corinthians 8:9.

For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory. 2 Corinthians 4:17.

Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 1:13.

    Our doubting minds

God has given us abundant evidence of His love on Calvary. The light of the cross should dispel every doubt from our mind.

Our hope is founded on the inspired Scriptures. Jesus speaks of His people as a brand plucked out of the fire. Zechariah 3:2.

For whatsoever things were written aforetime, were written for our learning. That we through patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope. Romans 15:4.

The Son of God endured immense sufferings in Gethsemane and on Calvary. He did this to rescue His people from the power of Satan.

God loves us and He wants to save us. Let us lay hold on the merit of a crucified and risen Savior. He is our perfection who has brought us righteousness at an infinite cost.

Thus as we repent before God for the transgression of His law, and lay hold by faith on the righteousness of Christ, He says:

Take away the filthy garments from them, and clothe them with a change of raiment. Zechariah 3:4.

Satan discourages everyone that seeks to come to God, telling us that we are sinners, unworthy of His love.

Furthermore, he deceives people so that they will not repent and believe that they may have their filthy garments removed.

Therefore, reach over the doubts that he suggests to your mind, and grasp the promise of God:

The blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin. 1 John 1:7.

Conclusion on the mind of Christ

We cannot confess Christ unless we have the mind and Spirit of Christ.

When you get the mind of Christ, your will aligns with His will. Your character is transformed to reflect His character.

Therefore, Be not conformed to this world. But be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind,

that ye may prove what is that good, acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Romans 12:2.

Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ. Ephesians 4:13.

For, To be carnally minded is death. But to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Romans 8:6.

Understanding Christ as God’s Temple: Revealing the Divine Glory in Humanity

Group of people before three megaphones.

I hope you enjoy reading this post. If you want to delve deeper into this topic – we can help, just ask.

The Son of God, Jesus Christ was the embodiment of God’s Temple revealed in His humanity. Thus the Messenger of the covenant spoke and His voice was heard in His own Temple.

Christ was the glory of the sanctuary. The One whom all types of the Old Testament prophecies and object lessons have prefigured explained their significance.

The Desire of all nations came and filled with His living presence the house of worship. He was God Himself manifested in the flesh.

His soul temple was an example of purity for humanity and angels.

Today, as in His time, people who understand the character and mission of Christ experience reverence. They are filled with awe.

As they looked upon Him, they felt that they were looking upon the temple of the living God.

    Table of contents

    God’s glory in His humanity

The Son of God condescended to take humanity. Thus His divine glory and majesty was veiled in it. Though He was fully divine and fully human, He shunned all outward display.

So, His human outward appearance hasn’t been an object of attraction.

    For example:

    • As many were astonished at thee; His visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men. Isaiah 52:14.
    • And when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire. Isaiah 53:2.

He lived in rude and unfriendly surroundings:

    • He was despised and rejected by men. And we hid as it were our faces from Him. He was despised, and we esteemed Him not. Isaiah 53:3.
    • Though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, that ye through His poverty might be rich. 2 Corinthians 8:9.

Only the beauty of heavenly truth must draw those who would follow Him.

The character of the Messiah had long been foretold in prophecies.

He desired people to accept Him upon the testimony of the Word of God.

In the death of Christ on Calvary’s cross, His soul temple seemed to be destroyed. But this was not so.

Through the cruel suffering and crucifixion, the Son of God completed His ordained work. This was established before the foundation of the world.

Jesus became the Lamb of God who took the sin of the world. John 1:29. Thus by His death He broke the chain of slavery to sin and death.

    For example:

    • For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. Romans 8:2.
    • Inasmuch as much as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, He also himself likewise took part of the same. That through death He might destroy him that had the power of death, that is the devil. Hebrews 2:14.

This latter house should be greater than the former

Pointing to Christ’s time, God spoke by His prophet Haggai about the second temple:

The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former. I will shake all nations, and the Desire of all nations shall come. And I will fill this house with glory, saith the Lord of hosts. Haggai 2:9,7.

The former house mentioned here is the first magnificent temple that Solomon had built by the special appointment of God. Yet the latter house was greater than the former. The Son of God – Desire of all nations had come.

He was the embodiment of the holy temple of God.

Therefore, when the religious leaders asked Jesus for a sign, He said:

The queen of the south…came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon. Behold, greater than Solomon is here. Matthew 12:42.

Nebuchadnezzar destroyed the God’s temple. It was rebuilt about five hundred years before the birth of Christ.

At the time of the second there were elderly people who had seen the glory of the first – Solomon’s temple. So, the prophet asked them:

Who is left among you that saw this house in her first glory? And how do you see it now? Is it not in your eyes in comparison to it as nothing? Haggai 2:3.

Then he gave the promise that the glory of this latter house should be greater than the former.

But the second temple didn’t have the magnificence as the former. Additionally, it was not hallowed by visible tokens of divine presence as the first temple.

    There was no:

    • Manifestation of supernatural power to mark its dedication.
    • Fire from Heaven to consume the sacrifice upon its altar.
    • Presence of the ark, mercy-seat, and tables of the testimony.

So, the promise of God given by Haggai had been fulfilled with the presence of His Son. In Him dwelt the fullness of the Godhead bodily. Colossians 2:9.

Additionally, who is God himself manifested in the flesh. 1 Timothy 3:16.

The Desire of all nations had indeed come to His temple when Jesus taught and healed in the sacred courts. So, in His presence only the second temple had exceeded the first in glory.

    Destroying and raising temple’s figure

It is important to understand what figure of speech Jesus had used. And also, how the religious leaders at His time had taken it and why.

Early in His ministry, Christ had cleaned the literal temple. He removed those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money. John 2:14.

The leaders wanted to know by what authority he had done it. They asked Him:

What sign shewest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things? John 2:18.

Jesus answered: Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. He spoke of the temple of his body. John 14:19, 21.

On the cross he cried, It is finished, and bowed his head and died. After three days the angel rolled back the stone from the sepulcher.

Christ came forth and proclaimed Himself the resurrection and the life.

I am the resurrection, and the life. He that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live. John 11:25.

As people’s substitute, Jesus had won the victory for them. They became His inheritance, purchased at infinite cost.

And everyone who believes in His name, can be an heir of God and a joint heir with Christ. Romans 8:17.

The leaders have understood in a literal sense Jesus’ words, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.

By misstating them they hoped to gain an advantage and condemn Him by the Sanhedrin and civil authority.

    For example:

At last came two false witnesses who said: This fellow said: I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days. Matthew 26:60, 61.

Even as misrepresented by the false witnesses, Jesus’ words contained nothing which would be regarded by the Romans as a crime worthy of death.

I lay down my life for the sheep

Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.

No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down on myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment I received of my Father. John 10:17, 18.

God the Father and His Son loved the world with infinite love. So, God had done all He could in giving Himself in His Son.

    For example:

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16.

But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8.

All this had been set in place beforehand, even before humankind creation, which God has done through His Son.

So, Revelation 13:8 describes Jesus as the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

Thus God hath saved us according to His own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began. 2 Timothy 1:9.

It had happened the way it was prophesied right after the fall into sin in the garden of Eden. Moreover, the way it was taught by the ceremonial instructions.

They all have pointed to Christ as the Messiah. By His atoning sacrifice on Calvary, He became the world’s redeemer.

Christ was the foundation and life of the temple. But, His shed blood on the cross had brought it to its end.

The temple services were typical of the sacrifice of the Son of God. They pointed to the great antitype, which was Christ Himself.

By His death He became the propitiation for the sins of the world – once and for all. Hebrew 10:10. Thus type met antitype in the perfect offering of the Son of God.

Furthermore, after His ascension to heaven Christ is our High Priest, officiating in the Heavenly Sanctuary. (Hebrews 4:14, 8:1.)

So, the phase of His earthly mission as the atoning sacrifice for the sin of the world is completed. It was all done according to the redemption plan of the Father and the Son.

The temple as the abode of the divine presence

God’s revelation to His people of ancient time was closely connected with the sanctuary. Both with the tabernacle in the wilderness and with the magnificent temple buildings.

    Here God was:

    • Worshiped and the sacrificial offerings were presented before Him.
    • The breastplate of the high priest, set with precious stones, from which messages from Jehovah were received.
    • In the holy of holies, overshadowed by the wings of cherubim, dwelt the perpetual token of the presence of God.
    • The ark of the covenant, containing the tables of the law – the pledge of victory in battle.

The temple was designed to be an object lesson locally and for the world. The sacrificial system has typified the Saviour, who was to become the perfect offering for the sinful individual.

The Messiah typified in the ceremonial law is the very same Christ that is revealed in the gospel. He came just as the prophecies foretold that He would come.

In His life and death, type met antitype, and the ceremonies found their fulfillment. For example:

When He (Jesus) had opened the book, found the place where it was written:

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor. He hath sent me to:

    • Heal the brokenhearted.
    • Preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind.
    • Set at liberty those that are bruised.

This day this scripture is fulfilled in your ears. Luke 4:17, 18, 21.

Nearing the close of his earthly ministry, Jesus said:

Behold, your house is left unto you desolate. And verily I say unto you, ye shall not see me, until the time come when ye shall say: Blessed is He that cometh in the name of the Lord. Luke 13:35.

Before He had called the temple His Father’s house. But God’s presence was withdrawn from the temple built to His glory when:

    • Type met anti-type on the cross of Calvary.
    • Jesus said, It is finished and the veil of the temple was supernaturally cut from top to bottom.

Unfortunately, not many at that time realized that God was no longer to be found in that palace of loveliness.

Let’s stay connected on social media

You are the temple of God

Because of sin, humanity ceased to be a temple for God. But Christ, as the Son of God and the Son of man became the link, uniting God with people again.

Thus God dwelled in humanity by the incarnation of His Son. So, through His saving grace the hearts of men and women become again His temple.

To all who believe in Him, He gives power to become the sons of God. For example:

But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. John 1:12, 13.

It is because Christ took human nature that believers could become partakers of the divine nature (character). 2 Peter 1:4.

So, the soul temple of God’s children is to be sacred, holy, pure, and undefiled as Jesus was. For instance:

    • Know you not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defiles the temple of God, He shall destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are. 1 Corinthians 3:16, 17.
    • Depart you, go out from there, touch no unclean thing. Go you out of the midst of her. Be you clean, that bear the vessels of the Lord. Isaiah 52:11.

Christ’s own image, or character, is to be reflected in the transformed character of His people.

They are to be fitted for the heavenly building.

    For example:

    • For we are labourers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building. 1 Corinthians 3:9.
    • In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord.
    • And you also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit. Ephesians 2:21, 22.

Conclusion on Christ as the temple’s glory

By God’s Son incarnation, God dwelled in humanity. Though perceived as a common man only by the religious leaders, He was the glory of the temple.

Christ ultimately fulfilled the symbolic prefigure of the ceremonial instructions of the sanctuary.

Through His saving and transforming grace one’s heart becomes God’s temple again.

Therefore, walk humbly with Christ, learning His meekness and lowliness. Thus your heart will become a temple for God’s presence.

The Personality (Character) of God the Father: The Son Has Declared Him

Group of people before three megaphones.

I hope you enjoy reading this post. If you want to delve deeper into this topic – we can help, just ask.

God the Father’s personality is demonstrated and communicated by His Son in His entire human life and mission on earth.

The Son – God with us, has revealed the Father in their relations as a distinct person. So, He is not merely a force with incomprehensible abilities.

They were in a very close relationship from eternity, which continued also after the incarnation of the Son in humanity.

Father and Son covenanted out of their infinite and unconditional love to save humanity. They devised the plan of redemption, giving to all another chance to choose God as their leader.

The Son of God has revealed the knowledge of His Father’s parental and personal attributes. His loving, merciful and ever carrying character was embodied in Jesus.

Thus the light (truth) of who God is as a person shined:

The light of the knowledge of the glory (goodness/character) of God has been shone in the face of Jesus Christ. 2 Corinthians 4:6.

He spoke, taught, lived and died, giving the most true representation of the Father’s personality.

    Table of contents

    Understanding God’s personality through Jesus

The Son of God manifests His Father as the member of the Godhead.

No man hath seen God at any time, the only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He hath declared Him. John 1:18.

For in Christ dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. Colossians 2:9.

The Father is all the fullness of the Godhead. He is invisible to mortal sight.

The Son is all the fullness of the Godhead manifested.

The inspired Scriptures declare the Son as the brightness of His glory, and the express image of His person. Hebrews 1:3

God’s beloved Son has voluntarily and willingly left the courts of Heaven. The entire Universe of God with amazement followed His incarnation as a human.

God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16.

God’s Divine Son became Emanuel (God with us) – one of the human family to live as man among others. Thus He was fully Divine and fully human – the Son of God and the Son of man.

This is the mystery – God as human, that the Bible speaks about. For example:

And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness. God was:

    • Manifested in the flesh.
    • Justified in the Spirit.
    • Seen of angels.
    • Preached unto the Gentiles.
    • Believed in the world.
    • Received up into glory. 1 Timothy 3:16.

As part of the Godhead’s purpose, He showed the world their unchanging commitment to help the fallen humanity.

The Father and the Son were working on humankind behalf and will continue to the second coming of Christ.

They have done it in unison to break the bondage of sin, and the misrepresentation about God.

    Unity in character and purpose

One that hath seen me hath seen the Father. John 14:9.

By this statement Jesus underscores the unity and identity between God the Father and Himself. Jesus’ compassionate character, words and actions are a direct revelation of the Father’s.

Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also. And from henceforth ye know Him, and have seen Him. John 14:6, 7.

In other words, the knowledge and understanding of God the Father is obtained through the knowledge of His Son.

My Father and I, we are one. John 10:30.

The Scriptures show the relation between God and Christ.

They point clearly at the personality of each.

In the same manner the unity that exists between Christ and His disciples does not destroy the personality of either. They are one in:

    • Purpose and mind.
    • Character attributes.
    • But not in person.

It is thus that God and Christ are one.

He stood forth distinctly in His human personality and appealed in simple language to humanity.

And yet, He was in perfect oneness with God. Thus His voice came with authority as the voice of God.

His teachings revealed the Father’s will, values, and the true nature of His kingdom. By listening to Jesus, people were hearing the words of the Father.

God’s love is no different than His Son’s love

The Father Himself loveth you. He said how He feels about humanity:

Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love. Therefore with loving-kindness have I drawn thee. Jeremiah 31:3.

God so loved the world and the world has seen it. He demonstrated this by crucifying Himself in the person of His Son.

    For example:

    • In this was manifested the love of God toward us, that God sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him.
    • Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 1 John 4:9, 10.
    • God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8.

Jesus Christ is the Gospel of the New Testament portrayed and prophesied in the Old Testament.

No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him. John 1:18.

Thus the true knowledge of God’s love and character comes from the revelation of His beloved Son. It is through the power of His Word and the work of His Spirit.

Therefore, we exalt Jesus Christ as our loving Saviour in whom we behold the image (character) of the invisible God.

The Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God. John 16:27.

As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love. John 15:9.

Furthermore, out of His love, God offers everyone salvation. He provides transformation and glorious restoration to eternal life through the merits of His Son.

The Son as the image of the invisible God

The Word was with God, and the Word was God. And The Word was made flesh and dwelt among us. John 1:1, 14.

He is the image of the invisible God. Colossians 1:15. What does it mean?

God sent His Son to our broken world. For example:

But when the fulness of the time has come, God sent forth His Son, made (born) of a woman, made (born) under the law. Galatians 4:4.

Thus the Divine Son took human nature and became the connecting link (mediator) between God and humanity.

He was a perfect union of Divine and human in Himself.

Thus Jesus manifested as far as the fallen humanity can endure the nature and the attributes of God’s personality. He taught humans what God desired them to know.

Many looked at Christ and saw only a common man from Nazareth. They needed “spiritual eyes of faith”. It applies to people of all time.

They can see (understand) the image of God in Christ by believing the personal testimonies of:

    • Himself.
    • God the Father.
    • Prophets, disciples, apostles and the entire Bible.

Moreover, by the special work of the Holy Spirit, enlightening Scriptures and making them effective for renewing the heart.

    • Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself. But the Father that dwelleth in me, He doeth the works. Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me. Or else believe me for the very works’ sake. John 14:10, 11.
    • I can do nothing on my own.
    • For the works which the Father hath given Me to finish, the same works I do. They bear witness of Me, that the Father hath sent Me. John 5:30, 36.

Therefore, Satan works hard to blind the spiritual sight of people. For instance:

In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. 2 Corinthians 4:4.

Divine character exemplified in human life

Jesus was fully Divine and fully human when He walked among people. He was the embodiment of Divine and human union – the Son of God and the Son of men.

So, His human life was the perfect revelation of the Father’s relentless goodness, righteousness and compassionate love. These are the most wonderful truths His Son has revealed to the world.

    For example:

Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God.

But made himself of no reputation, and took upon Him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men.

He humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Philippians 2:6-8.

So, born in human nature, Jesus became the Lamb of God without blemish (sin), slain from the foundation of the world. (1 Peter 1:19; Revelation 13:18).

And the crowning act of “God with us” was His atoning sacrifice for the sin of the entire world. On Calvary, the heart of Infinite Love has paid the price of human redemption.

Jesus never used His Divine power for His advantage. He relied on the relationship He has with His Father for strength. He also depended on it for everything else needed in the beetle with the power of darkness.

Thus He fulfilled His great earthly mission. Christ profoundly demonstrated to the world that God is Love and became the Savior of our broken world.

    Let’s stay connected

God’s personality embodied to humankind at creation

And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness…So God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him; male and female created He them. Genesis 1:26, 27.

    What does it mean?

Though they had their biological/physical nature/essence, they needed something else. Adam’s human form was perfect in all its arrangements, but it was without life (physical nor spiritual).

The Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life. And man became a living soul. Genesis 2:7.

Humankind was endowed with the ability to multiply in family and communities.

Moreover, they were given spiritual and moral qualities of their Maker. Thus they were to represent and glorify Him as His children.

Their living souls were not only to continue in existence, but to experience a constant spiritual and moral growth.

It was possible, because of what God has endowed them with at creation.

They were made with a capacity to:

    • Love and be loved.
    • Know and understand the goodness of God.
    • Be free to choose.

Humans were the crowning act of God’s creation. He designed them to express His thought and reveal His glory (goodness and character).

So, it is not enough to believe in:

    • A supernatural force.
    • Things that have no pity, and never hear the cry for help.

    What we need is to:

    • Know of an infinite Friend who pities us.
    • Trust in a heart full of compassion.

And even so is the knowledge of God in His Word.

Sin separated humans and their Maker. No man has seen God at any time, except as He is manifested through Christ. For example:

No man knoweth the Son, but the Father. Neither knoweth any man the Father,

save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal Him. Matthew 11:27.

Christ and the apostles taught clearly the truth of God’s extraordinary and incredible personality.

The concept of God’s character shapes the spiritual life

Can we trust God without true understanding of His character ?

How can we walk with God and have the joy of being His friends, if we don’t know Him?

Our spiritual life is built on the opinion of who we believe God to be.

All created things testify for God’s power, wisdom and love. But we can learn the true God’s personality as it was revealed in Christ.

    O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee;

But I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me.

    And I have declared unto them Thy name (equal to character in the Bible), and will declare it;

That the love wherewith thou hast loved Me may be in them, and I in them. John 17:25, 26.

And this is the love that draws us to God and to each other. Furthermore, the same divine grace, by which Christ overcame is offered to HIs followers.

    Christ said:

To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with Me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in His throne. Revelation 3:21.

The Father and Son relationship explained

When Jesus prayed for His disciples, He started with asking His Father to glorify Him.

Father, the hour has come. Glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee. O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was. John 17:2, 5.

Jesus was about to undergo the ultimate demonstration of the love of God to humanity on the cross of Calvary.

So, He asked the Father to testify and support His beloved Son’s mission to become the Savior of the world.

Jesus already had manifested to all the parental, loving and merciful character of God through His entire life.

Thus for everyone acquainted with His:

    • Compassionate healing and liberating from devils.
    • Truthful teaching, and atoning sacrifice.
    • Obedient life to the will of God, the implied meaning of Jesus’ words was fulfilled.

One that hath seen Me hath seen the Father. And how sayest thou then, Show us the Father? John 14:9.

When certain Greeks came to see Him, Jesus addressed the Father again:

Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour. But for this reason I came to this hour.

Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again. John 12:27, 28.

The Father has spoken on Son’s behalf at Jesus’ baptism and His transfiguration of the mount.

    Listen to My beloved Son

Jesus came to John near the Jordan river to be baptized by him.

And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water. And, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him.

And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Matthew 3:16, 17.

Thus the Heavenly Father anointed the Son with His Spirit and inaugurated His mission to the world.

Jesus Christ was about to start His ministry, carrying the plan of humanity’s redemption as prophesied.

And all flesh shall see the salvation of God. Luke 3:6.

Ultimately, He was about to become the Lamb of God, who takes the sin of our broken world.

On another occasion, Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, and brought them up into the mountain.

There He was transfigured before them. His face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.

And a bright cloud overshadowed them. And a voice out of the cloud said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear ye Him. Matthew 17:2, 5.

Thus God the Father commissioned Jesus’ disciples of all time to follow closely what He has to say. Moreover, to follow His example in all things, who is the head of the church (His sheep).

So, Peter who was an eye witness stated:

For He (Jesus) received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory. This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. 2 Peter 1:17.

    Conclusion on God’s personality

In His life on earth, Jesus Christ was part of the human family. The Son of God demonstrated His Father’s personality.

He was the light (truth) of God’s character in the time of spiritual darkness and misapprehension.

Though invisible for mortal human eyes, He has carried His Divinity. And He never was a lesser God than the Father.

Jesus was fully Divine and fully human when He walked among people. He was the Son of God and the Son of man. In any of those He reflected entirely the moral image of the Father.

The Son of God showed His oneness with God the Father in love, motives and purpose about humanity.

Throughout His entire life, Christ has displayed in words and action His Father’s loving, merciful, long suffering and forgiving character.

Thus through Jesus the attributes of the invisible God were made known to the world.

The Father and the Son demonstrated their love to humanity as God crucified Himself in the person of His Son.

Clarification notes on the used terms

A review of theological literature and different Bible translations shows that the same terms are used interchangeably.

These terms are used for explaining God’s nature, which includes substance and essence.

They are also used for explaining God’s character, which includes person, personality, and morality.

Therefore, to avoid confusion and misunderstanding, we have to say that this blog doesn’t expound on:

    • God’s Divine substance, matter, essence, nor any other constitution of His being.
    • His abilities and power, and reality of existence.

Furthermore, the terms that the Bible (KJV) uses to describe God as a person might not completely align. They may not entirely fit in our modern psychology explanation.

Nevertheless, the Bible explains itself clearly when speaks of God the Father as:

    • Loving, compassionate, long-suffering, pitiful, kind.
    • Merciful, forgiving, righteous, full of goodness and truth, etc.

The Divine Son of God became one of the human family – Son of man Emanuel – God with us.

And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness. God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory. 1 Timothy 3:16.

God gave His Son not only to bear our sins and die as our sacrifice. Moreover, He gave Him to be forever one of humanity.

The Son of God has bound Himself to it as He took our nature. This tie will never be broken.

Through the eternal ages He will be the embodiment of Divine and human union.

    One equal with God

The Bible describes the Son of God as a member of the Godhead.

The creation of the animate and inanimate world testifies of His eternal power.

    • In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. All things were made by Him. And without Him there was not anything that was made. John 1:1, 3.
    • For the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead. So that they are without excuse. Romans 1:20.

The Son of God spoke to Moses from the bush on Mount Horeb: I AM THAT I AM. Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you. Exodus 3:14.

So when He came in the likeness of man, He declared Himself the I AM.

He is the Word who became flesh.

    • And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us. John 1:14.

John bare witness of Him, and cried, saying: This was He of whom I spoke. He that cometh after me is preferred before me. For He was before me. John 1:15.

Father, Son and disciples’ testimonies of His Sonship

They affirmed on more than one occasion that He is the Divine Son whom the Father has sent.

One example of it is found in the New Testament Book of Matthew at Jesus’ baptism:

And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water.

And, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:

And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Matthew 3:16, 17.

Christ also declared His Divinity and relationship to the Majesty of Heaven.

    For instance:

    • I and my Father, we are one. John 10:30.
    • O Father, glorify Thou Me with Thine own self with the glory which I had with Thee before the world was. John 17:5.
    • Not that any man hath seen the Father, save He which is of God, He hath seen the Father. John 6:46.

Peter had confessed the truth which is the foundation of the believer’s faith. Jesus asked His disciples: Who say ye that I am? Then Peter said:

Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. Matthew 16:16.

At another occasion Jesus asked the twelve, Will ye also go away?

    Then Simon Peter answered Him:

Lord, to whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life.

And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God. John 6:68, 69.

    One of the human family

God has adopted human nature in the person of His Son. After His resurrection, He has carried the same into heaven.

Additionally, the same Jesus will return to earth for bestowing the reward of eternal life to the righteous dead and living.

    For example:

    • Who, being the brightness of His glory, and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power. When He had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high. Hebrews 1:3.
    • Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven. Acts 1:11.

The Son of God took upon Himself human nature to make it possible for us to unite our humanity to His divinity.

Thus through the eternal ages Christ is linked with humanity as He is with the Father. In Him we become more closely united to God than if we had never fallen.

    For instance:

    • That they all may be one. As thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us. That the world may believe that thou hast sent me. John 17:21.
    • Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises. That by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. 2 Peter 1:4.

To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in His throne. Revelation 3:21.

    The “Son of man”

Jesus has identified Himself as one of the human family with the phrase Son of man. It is the Son of man who:

    • Took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham. Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren. Hebrews 2:16, 17.
    • And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Philippians 2:8.

Jesus was in all points tempted like we are. Hebrews 4:15. He endured every trial to which we are subject.

And He exercised in His own behalf no power that is not freely offered to us. As a man, He met temptations, and overcame them in the strength given Him from God.

Though He was sinless, He has borne the shame, guilt and burden of everyone’s sin.

But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8.

Thus the plan of God and His Son to save humanity came to power.

On the cross, the Father has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities. Isaiah 53:5, 6.

For He (the Father) has made Him (the Son) to be sin for us, who knew no sin. That we might be made the righteousness of God in Him. 2 Corinthians 5:21.

Thus Christ became the Lamb of God as foretold by the prophets. (John 1:29). He took the sin of our broken world at the ultimate price.

The unimaginable anguish and the separation from the Father caused by sin broke His heart. Thus through His atoning sacrifice Jesus became the Substitute and Sinbearer of humanity.

This was a victorious act for which He said: The hour has come, that the Son of man should be glorified. John 12:2.

Son of God and Son of man united

    God’s Son unites in Himself:

    • Divine and human
    • Creator and creature.
    • Nature of God and nature of Adam.
    • Son of God and Son of man.

Human and divine were blended in Him. This is true for His life on earth and after His ascension. He came in human nature so that He can reach humanity in their fallen condition.

Thus they are given another opportunity to choose God as their leader. Through transgression, the “sons of men” became subjects of Satan.

But, through faith in the atoning sacrifice of Christ, the sons of Adam become the sons of God.

The  sorrow He has borne is with no comparison. A human being has not been made a sinbearer. Therefore, one will never know the horror of the curse of sin which He bore.

The nature of Christ had a greater capacity for suffering, for the human existed in the Divine. Thus it created a capacity for suffering to endure the sins of the entire broken world.

And having paid with His own blood the price of redemption, He ascended to Heaven after His resurrection. He became people’s Advocate and Intercessor, sharing the throne of God.

    For example:

    • God also hath highly exalted Him, and given Him a name which is above every name. That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow. And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:9-11.
    • Now of the things which we have spoken, this is the sum: We have such a High Priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens. Hebrews 8:1.
    • It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. Romans 8:34.

And those who seek God through Him will be made partakers of the divine nature.

The same Jesus will come to earth again

At this time, the resurrected saints who had lived when He walked on earth, will see and recognize Him as the same Jesus they knew from before.

This same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven. Acts 1:11.

For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God. And the dead in Christ shall rise first. 1 Thessalonians 4:16.

Jesus will retain all His scars from the cruel crucifixion. He has shown them to His disciples on the day of His resurrection.

    For example:

    • Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. And when He had so said, He shewed unto them His hands and His side. John 20:19, 20.
    • And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them. Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands. And reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side. John 20:26, 27.

    Conclusion on God in humanity

Christ was the embodiment of the union of Divine and human – the Son of God and the Son of men. The Word who is God was made flesh and dwelt among us.

He came in the fashion of man. With His broken heart and shed blood on the cross, He has paid the redemption of the human family.

Moreover, He will retain His human nature forever, fulfilling the prophecy of Isaiah 9:6.

He shall be called, Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
